It was at a dock with water pressure. Sure solved the problem, but yes, you need a a water supply.
Bud,
This looks like an interesting device, but seems to need a supply of water under pressure, rather than just a big lake that floats the boat. Was your boat at a dock that was supplied with water? If used on moored boats, it seems each would need a battery operated water pump.

Had an egret that liked to roost and leave unsavory puddles on my foredeck.
Cured him of that habit with this:

...AND my boat got an occasional rinse with fresh water.

A fisherman in Port Jefferson suggested it to me. I was skeptical, but desperate so I ordered one and the birds have stayed away.

You have mentioned all the ones I have used or seen used with success. What about a cords with streamers every 6 inches along and above the boom to the stem head? Maybe another along the uppers to the stem head about a foot off the deck. If it works let me know.

Fleet 72, located on Saratoga Lake in upstate New York, has a serious bird problem. Both local and migrating bird are using some of the boats in our mooring field for bathroom stops.
Various members of Fleet 72 use plastic owls, others use netting, some others hang streamers from various parts of their boats, all with limited success. The bird problem seems to have gotten worse over the past few years.
In addition to the deterrents we have tried, we know of wind-powered "evil eye" mobiles, and electrically-powered audible bird repellers, which could be mounted on each boat and operated by 12 volt batteries.
I am hoping that other members of the ECA have had some experience with this same problem, have discovered the keys to success, and would be willing to share those secrets with us.
