Welcome to The New ECA Forums
Author Last Post
I replied privately to Dave Parlin last week after he posted this message, but realized today that a public reply may help people understand how the forum works.

No member names or email addresses were released when the new ECA website and forums were set up. The forums work like a Reply All email list, but no members see the email address of the other members who are posting or receiving messages.

All messages come from the forum. Replies are sent back to the forum, and then are distributed to the members of the forum by the computer system at Club Express using the registered email addresses of all forum members. The name of the person sending the message is displayed, but even this can be hidden by using the forum options in your profile. I recommend that you do not hide your real name, as I believe the use of real names leads to more civilized discussions.

The Classifieds forum is set up a bit differently. That forum allows people to respond to either all members of the forum, or ONLY to the person who posted the For Sale or Wanted message. Therefore, the email addresses of people posting messages are currently displayed, and if you reply privately, the person receiving the message will see your email address. If the forum members believe this is a problem, we can change the Classifieds forum to the same format we use for the General Sailing forum.

Dear Vic ,,,, Someone on the ECA Board should offer an explanation to the membership as to how and why members names and emails were released.   Somehow this doesn’t appear to be standard or even tested communication.  Bring 2032 to  Nationals in Cedarville  ,,,,,,, I’d like to meet you because I’m sure you had good intentions.   1487   Fleet 31

Subject: [Ensign Sailing] Welcome to The New ECA Forums <<$171823559745$>>

Welcome to the new Ensign Class Association website and forums. These forums replace the Ensign discussion group formerly hosted on Yahoo under the name EnsignSailors.

You are receiving this message because all active members of the ECA have initially been made members of the new forums. Instruction to opt-out of the forums is listed later in this message.

We will initially have two discussion forums: the Ensign Sailing Forum, for general sailing discussions, and the General Classifieds Forum, for listing Ensign-related items for sale. Boats for sale will continue to be listed on the Buy an Ensign section of the website, and not in the General Classifieds Forum. Attachments are allowed in both forums.

The general public will be able to read all messages posted to the new forums, but messages can be posted only by members of the ECA, and others given temporary access to the website for the purpose of participating in the forum discussions. The Sailing Forum is set up so that replies to messages are sent back to the Forum. On the other hand, the Classifieds Forum is set so that the reader can reply to either the Forum or only to the original poster.

All current and future members of the ECA will automatically have full access to the new forums. Members of EnsignSailors who are not currently members of the ECA will be given full access to the new ECA website for six months. After the six-month period they would be expected to join the ECA by paying the annual membership fee of $25 per year in order to retain their posting privileges. This option is limited to people who were members of EnsignSailors as of May 2, 2017, the day this new website went live.

People who are not members of the ECA or EnsignSailors will be given complementary 60 day access to the ECA website upon request to the Webmaster, which will permit them to both read and post messages in the forum. We expect this will help prospective Ensign owners gather the information they need to make an informed purchase discussion. After the complementary period these individuals would be expected to join the ECA if they wish to retain their posting privileges.

Members who do not want to receive copies of each message posted on the new forums as an email message can opt out of all forum email by either clicking the link at the end of this message, or by going to your Profile page on the new ECA website and changing your forum preferences. The options will be: a) individual email messages; b) a daily digest delivered by email; or c) no email. In the latter case you can still read and post messages using the Forum link on the website. You may also send a message to me at webmaster@ensignclass.com requesting to be removed.

Members who want to post messages by email will need to either reply to an existing message or send a new message to ensignsailing@ensignclass.com or classified@ensignclass.com using the same email address that they registered with the ECA. Members can also specify an alternate email account to use for forum discussions in their Profile. If you use the wrong email account to send your message, you will not receive an error message, but your message will not be posted. If you are signed up for email message delivery, each message you post to the forum will be sent to you when it is sent to the other forum members, though this may take a few minutes. If you have not received a copy of your own message after 15 minutes, you should check to make sure you used the correct email account to send that message.

Please contact me at webmaster@ensignclass.com or post a message in the appropriate forum if you have any questions about the new forums.
