Sunday, October 26, 2025. Fleet 57’s Chowder Cup Conclusion at Thames Yacht Club
The final race in this year’s Chowder Cup was held at the Thames Yacht Club on Sunday, October 26th. Prior to the race there was a pot-luck brunch hosted at the club. It was the final Fleet 34 social event of the 2025 season and was well attended by Ensign skippers and crew from both the Niantic Bay Yacht Club and Thames Yacht Club. Besides the camaraderie and good food, highlighted by Ward Woodruff cooking eggs to order, there were some Fleet 34 updates and ideas for next year’s racing schedule.

Sunday, October 19, 2025, Fall Chowder Series at Thames Yacht Club - Fifth Race
The fourth Thames Yacht Club Chowder Series race on October 12th was cancelled due to a nor’easter with everyone readying their Ensigns to withstand the havoc of the storm.
The fifth Chowder Series race was held on Sunday, October 19th. The day started with everyone reassembling their Ensign into a raceable boat. With brisk winds all week and strong winds predicted, only four of the Fleet 57 Ensigns came out to the starting line.

Sunday, October 5, 2025, Fall Chowder Series at Thames Yacht Club - Third Race
On a beautiful fall day, the Thames Yacht Club held the third race of their Chowder Series. The winds were light and out of the south, and with the bright sun and 80 degree weather it couldn’t have been a better start to the month’s racing.
Unfortunately, due to some personal commitments, only three Ensigns (Swoose, Teamwork, and Triton) were able to compete. The race committee set a windward course to the mouth of the river with the ebbing tide, followed by a downwind leg against the current, and a short windward leg to the finish.

Sunday, September 28, 2025 - Fall Chowder Series at Thames Yacht Club - Second Race.
The second Thames Yacht Club Chowder Series race was held on Sunday, September 28th with a predicted wind of 9 knots out of the Southwest. Although the wind at the starting line was only 6 knots, the Race Committee set a course to venture twice out into Long Island Sound. The skewed and long starting line gave you a choice of the favored end at the committee boat or where there was higher wind.

Sunday, September 21, 2025 - Fall Chowder Series at Thames Yacht Club
On September 21st, the Thames Yacht Club and Fleet 57 kicked off their fall Chowder Series that runs for 6 consecutive Sundays. This year’s Chowder Series has a slight twist from last year, where each weekend a different competitor’s chowder will be featured. Not sure if by the last race, on October 26th, the sailors will be pursuing bragging rights on the water, or which team featured the finest tasting and best style chowder.
