Epropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo 3HP 1kW Electric Outboa...
Author Last Post

Hi Steve-

The long shaft refers to the length of the motor (or how deep the propeller goes). Long shaft is definitely needed on an Ensign.

The remote version would be awesome on the Ensign as you’d lock the engine straight, use the ship’s tiller and stay in the cockpit. No more scrambling around on the transom steering and throttling (and rotating for reverse).

I will eventually order one from Ensign Spars, but it’s not the budget right now.

Hi Donnie

I have thought about buying this as well. When you say "long shaft" do you mean a long tiller? Do you lock it down in a fixed position and use the ship's tiller to steer? Had you thought about remote control version?

thanks

Steve

Thanks for the review, Donnie. Sounds like it’ll do nicely. Now to get rid and of my Merc…

I bought from Tiny Boat Nation. They were very responsive and helpful to answer my questions

Hi Chance,
I absolutely love my new ePropulsion Spirit Evo 3HP motor. I have sailed with it several times since I received it in December, at different speeds and conditions. I was surprised how well the system pushes the 3000lb Ensign around. Quiet. The attached tiller is really great. Just twist it from the starting position left for forward and right for reverse. Very responsive. I bought the long shaft model and glad I did. I bring the battery in its bag home after sailing to recharge it and to protect it. I take the shaft with tiller handle attached off the motor mount and lay it in its bag and lay it on the cockpit floor. Both the battery and shaft are somewhat heavy for a 76 year old man like me but I'm careful. Only caution I would make is for example if you are going forward and you want to go in reverse you should bring the throttle on the tiller to its neutral position for a few seconds so that it catches up with itself and then put it in reverse.
Hope this helps you with your decision.

I will check with them. Looks like a nice set up with the remote control; especially for the Ensign!

Thanks!

Several boats in Fleet #29 in Cleveland are using ePropulsion engines and they like them.  Not sure which model they use.  Check with Ensign Spars as they use the engine and represent the company.

Wondering if you pursued this? If so, what are your thoughts?

I'm looking at the same set up to replace my cranky 3.5HP Merc.

Has anyone purchased and had success with the above mentioned engine in the Subject line? It comes with a remote. The battery recharges itself while sailing with what is known as 'Hydrogeneration'. Ensign Spars is now a dealer.

Thanks,
